Jim Feldkamp

Jim Feldkamp, originally from Roseburg, Oregon, embarked on a notable journey that led him from the halls of Oregon State University, where he earned his BS in Business, to the skies as a U.S. Naval Flight Officer. His early career was marked by distinguished service aboard the USS Midway, where he played a crucial role during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1991 as a Counter-Measures Officer and Navigator for the EA-6B, the Navy’s premier electronic attack aircraft.

 

After his tenure in active duty, he transitioned to the U.S. Naval Reserves and soon found a new arena for Jim’s skills at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Norfolk, Virginia. His dedication and expertise were evident as he became a founding member of the Tidewater Joint Terrorism Task Force and took to the skies once more, this time performing aerial surveillance on suspects involved in criminal and terrorist activities. His commitment to public service took a political turn in 2004 when he decided to run for Oregon’s District 4 Congressional seat as the Republican nominee, a pursuit he repeated in 2006.

 

Feldkamp’s contributions extended into the academic realm when he was recalled to active duty in 2007 to help establish what would become the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office (NMIO). His academic tenure included positions as an adjunct professor at several prestigious universities where he taught courses on domestic and international terrorism, further establishing his expertise. His scholarly contributions include the authorship and editing of the university textbook “Theory and Politics of Terrorism,” which has been widely recognized in academic circles.

 

Professionally, Feldkamp continued to leverage his experience in various roles, from leading as a consultant at Complete Threat Preparedness, Inc., where he provided expert guidance on security and protection, to engaging as a freelance editor at Reedsy, reviewing manuscripts focused on terrorism and intelligence. His adventurous spirit was showcased in his participation in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, a testament to his resilience and pursuit of challenging endeavors.

 

James Feldkamp’s efforts in maritime security were particularly impactful. As the Branch Head for Outreach and Coordination at the Office of Global Maritime Situational Awareness, he facilitated key partnerships and improved the sharing of information critical to maritime safety. His leadership led to significant enhancements in the Maritime Safety and Security Information System (MSSIS), which covers vast stretches of global coastlines.

 

Outside of his professional life, he is a genuine sports enthusiast. Jim loves mountain climbing, skiing, scuba diving, flying, and sailing. His participation in events like the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain, underscores his adventurous and spirited nature.

 

Feldkamp’s educational background is robust, with advanced degrees and diplomas from respected institutions, including The Catholic University of America and the U.S. Naval War College. During his formative years at Linfield University, where he was part of the National Championship football team, he laid the foundation for a life characterized by leadership, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.
